HOW IT WORKS
How the Duplicate Listing Finder Works
Pick your business
Type its name and city and choose it from the list. That's your main listing.
We search Google Maps
We look up your business name, phone number and address, and compare every listing we find with yours.
See what matches
Each match shows why it was flagged (same phone, same website, same address or a near-identical name) and how many reviews it holds.
THE FIX
How to Merge Two Google Business Profiles
Short answer: there is no merge button. You report the extra listing on Google Maps as a duplicate of your main one, and Google merges them after a review. When it does, the reviews from both profiles end up on the profile that stays.
- Pick the profile to keep. Usually the verified one with the correct name, address and phone number, and the most reviews.
- Save your review replies. Google says replies may be lost in a merge. Our free Google Review Backup tool downloads every review and reply as a CSV.
- Make both listings match. Google only merges profiles that represent the same business with the same details. If you manage the duplicate, update it to the same name and address first.
- Report the duplicate on Google Maps. Open the extra listing, click Suggest an edit, choose Close or remove (on some devices it says Place is closed or not here), then Duplicate of another place, and select your main listing.
- Contact support if it doesn't merge. If nothing changes after two weeks, open your Business Profile, go to Support and send both Google Maps links. Ask them to merge the duplicate into your main profile.
- Check again in a few weeks. Run this tool again to make sure the duplicate is gone and hasn't come back.
If you created the duplicate yourself
If you made a second profile by accident and it has no reviews worth keeping, you can simply remove it from your account. Google says this doesn't affect your verified listing. Our guide on how to delete a Google Business Profile walks through the steps. If it does have reviews, report it as a duplicate instead so the reviews are kept.
If you moved or changed owners
Don't create a new profile when you move. Update the address on your existing one and Google moves your reviews with it. If a new profile was already verified after a move or ownership change, Google support can transfer the reviews from the old profile to the new one.
THE CAUSES
Why Duplicate Listings Hurt (and Where They Come From)
Two listings for one business split your reviews, so neither looks as strong as it should. Customers may call an old number or drive to an old address, and Google gets mixed signals about which listing to show. That can push both down in the local results.
Duplicates usually come from:
- A move or rebrand where a new profile was created instead of updating the old one.
- Old details on directory sites. Google picks up your old name, address or phone from other sites and creates a "new" place.
- Someone else adding your business, such as a customer, a past employee or an earlier marketing agency.
- Small name differences, like "Joe's Plumbing" and "Joe's Plumbing LLC", that Google treats as two places.
What is not a duplicate: Google allows separate listings for individual practitioners (doctors, lawyers, real estate agents) and for departments that serve their own customers, even at the same address. Those can stay.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you merge two Google Business Profiles?
Not with a button. Google merges duplicate profiles itself after someone reports the duplicate on Google Maps. If Google agrees that both profiles are the same business, it combines them into one and keeps the reviews from both.
What happens to my reviews when Google merges two profiles?
According to Google, the reviews from both profiles are combined on the profile that stays. Your replies to those reviews may be lost, so save a copy of the important ones first.
How long does a merge take?
Usually from a few days to a few weeks. Google reviews every merge request, and you won't always get an email when it is done. Check the duplicate on Google Maps again after a week or two.
Should I just delete the duplicate profile instead?
Only if it has no reviews you care about. Deleting a profile removes everything on it, including its reviews. Reporting it as a duplicate is the way to keep those reviews.
Why does Google keep creating duplicate listings for my business?
The usual causes are an old address or business name that is still listed on directory sites, a customer or Google suggesting a "new" place, a second profile created by a past employee or agency, and changes to your address or service area. Fixing your name, address and phone number across the web stops most of them from coming back.
Is a listing for a doctor or lawyer at my office a duplicate?
No. Google allows separate listings for individual practitioners (doctors, lawyers, real estate agents) and for departments with their own customers, even at the same address and phone number. Only listings for the same business are duplicates.
Is the Duplicate Listing Finder free?
Yes. No signup, no email and no access to your Google account. The tool only looks at public Google Maps listings.
